Explore the answers to common questions and also tips for troubleshooting.
LawY offers two powerful types of AI-answers to accelerate your legal research. Both are tailored to your matter type and jurisdiction and typically include linked citations for easy reference.
When you ask LawY a legal question, you’ll first receive instant AI-answers. These appear within seconds, drawing on verified content from our proprietary legal knowledge base. You can continue the conversation by asking unlimited follow-up questions. Most users find these instant answers invaluable for jumpstarting their research and fast-tracking initial drafts for correspondence or templates.
If you need to explore specific legal principles in more depth, you can request Deep Research AI-answers. At the bottom of every conversation, you’ll see a prompt to ‘Generate’. LawY will extract the key legal questions from your exchange and present them in a list. You can then choose which questions you’d like to explore further.
Once you're happy with your selection, click ‘Request Deep Research’ or ‘Request Deep Research + Verification’, depending on your needs. When ready, your Deep Research AI-answers—verified if selected—will appear in the ‘Deep Research’ tab on the left-hand navigation.
No, LawY cannot provide legal advice. This is because we’re an AI-powered legal research tool, focused on giving you the flexible features to enhance your efficiency. We focus on helping you explore legal questions and principles with unparalleleled accuracy and relevance.
But AI should never replace the crucial work of a lawyer, because only a qualified lawyer can apply the legal principles to the nuanced and complex facts of the matter.
All LawY users must maintain their professional obligations by reading, understanding, and checking the accuracy of all AI-answers they receive; and furthermore, they are responsible for applying the research to their unique case. Features like verification only increase confidence in any AI-answer and do not replace the work of a lawyer.
When you click ‘Generate’, LawY will extract all substantive legal questions from your conversation and distil them into a list. This means that questions regarding templates, affidavits, case summaries, or the like will not be included in this list of questions.
Once the list appears, you can then select which questions you would like to explore deeper through Deep Research and verification.
Currently, LawY Deep Research is only available in Australia. We’ve planned a staged rollout strategy, as launching in one country first enables us to closely monitor for any unexpected issues and scale the operational side effectively.
We look forward to rolling out LawY Deep Research globally in the near future. Follow us on LinkedIn to hear about it or keep an eye out for our next LawY user newsletter.
No, verification is only available on Deep Research AI-answers, in all regions where Deep Research is available. This means that instant AI-answers are not eligible for verification.
You may be wondering: why the change? This shift is the result of extensive user feedback and ongoing product evolution. We’re adapting the role of our lawyers-in-the-loop to ensure they provide the greatest value—particularly where their legal insight truly makes a difference. Deep Research answers are designed for substantive legal queries where such indepth input adds real weight and confidence to your legal research.
Furthermore, verification has not been available for some time on: templates (e.g. affidavits or letters) or case summaries for a number of reasons. In the case of templates, this is because these materials often require a nuanced understanding of the specific facts—an area where only the practising lawyer can make accurate assessments. For case summaries, when a URL is provided, LawY generates summaries based on the primary source itself, allowing you to dive deeper through the chat interface. When a single case is requested, LawY uses a previously verified source link to maximise accuracy from the outset.
Please note: if Deep Research is not yet available in your region, then all of the instant AI-answers to the substantive legal questions generated from your conversation will still be available for verification.

Yes! Once you've received your Deep Research AI-answers, you will have the option to then submit them for verification. At the bottom of any Deep Research AI-answer is a 'Submit for verification' button.
