When we say LawY is "your trusted AI legal research assistant," we're not just talking about the technology; we’re talking about the team and the mission behind it. We’re continually looking at ways to raise the bar when it comes to purpose-built legal technology.
We recognise that every lawyer is at a different stage in their AI journey. Some of you are AI enthusiasts, eager to explore every new capability. Others are cautiously optimistic, wanting to dip your toes in without diving headfirst. And that's perfectly fine. LawY evolves to meet you wherever you are, shaped by your feedback, your needs, and the advocacy of the lawyers on our team who champion your interests every single day.
Today, we're thrilled to share our latest suite of enhancements: features and improvements designed not in isolation, but through close collaboration with lawyers like you who use LawY daily across Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Ireland.
Jump in today to experience these small but powerful features designed for your legal efficiency.
Let's start with a simple but powerful new feature: Suggested Questions. As you work through your legal questions, LawY now intelligently suggests relevant follow-up questions that can help you explore related legal principles with ease.
These aren't random suggestions; they're carefully curated based on the context of your current research, the jurisdiction you're working in, and the specific area of law you're exploring.
Imagine you're drafting a client letter about property disputes in New South Wales. As you ask LawY about adverse possession requirements, you might see suggestions pop up about:
The beauty of this feature is its flexibility. Working in an unfamiliar area of law? The suggested questions act as gentle guides, helping you identify the key legal principles you need to explore. Already an expert in your field? Use them as a checklist to ensure you haven't overlooked any angles that might strengthen your client's position.
Every lawyer knows the drill: spot a case, open multiple tabs, scan lengthy judgments, lose 15 minutes determining if it's even relevant. Multiply that, and you've lost hours. Case Highlights changes everything—turning those 15-minute deep dives into 15-second decisions to help springboard your next steps with confidence.
Here's how it works: whenever LawY generates an AI-answer that references case law, those cases are automatically highlighted in blue within your conversation. It's a small visual cue with big implications for your workflow. Click on any highlighted case name, and you're presented with two immediate options:
Summary: Get an AI-generated summary of the case on demand. Think about how much time you currently spend determining case relevance—skimming headnotes, scrolling through judgments, trying to extract the key principle. Now imagine doing that in seconds. Our summaries give you the key facts and practical implications instantly, with links for you to self verify and explore further.
Copy citation: With a single click, copy the properly formatted case citation for use in your documents. It sounds simple, but consider the compound time savings: no manual typing, no double-checking formatting, no fixing typos or citation errors. Just click, copy, paste, and move on. When you're drafting a brief with dozens of authorities, these seconds add up to serious productivity gains.
What makes this feature particularly powerful is its intelligence. LawY prioritises primary sources, searching for the authoritative version of cases first. However, we know that sometimes primary sources aren't readily available or accessible. In those instances, LawY seamlessly leverages web search capabilities to provide the most relevant and reliable information possible. You get the best available source without the time sink of managing multiple databases or search platforms yourself.
We've all been there; you're deep in research, and you need to analyse a lengthy contract clause, a complex statutory provision, or detailed correspondence. You paste it into your conversation with LawY, and suddenly your clean, organised chat becomes a wall of text that's difficult to navigate.
Enter Smart Paste, our intelligent solution to this common frustration. Now, when you paste any text longer than 256 characters into your conversation window, LawY automatically converts it into a tidy attachment. Your pasted content is still fully analysed by the AI, but your conversation remains clean and scannable.
This might seem like a small change, but it has profound implications for how you work:
Better organisation: Your conversations with LawY remain focused on the questions and answers, not cluttered with source material. It's easier to review your research trail and find specific insights when you're not scrolling through pages of pasted text.
Maintained context: Even though the text becomes an attachment, LawY still has full access to analyse it. You can ask questions about the pasted text just as you would if the text were inline.
Sometimes, a quick conversational answer is all you need. Other times, you need to go deeper. That's why we've redesigned how you access our Rapid and Deep Research features through the new 'Boost Research' button.
Previously, you'd find the option to generate deeper research embedded within your conversation flow. Based on user feedback, we've moved this to a dedicated button in the top right corner of your interface. It's a thoughtful adjustment that addresses two key user needs:
Reduced visual clutter: Your conversation flow remains clean and focused on the immediate Q&A, without interface elements breaking up the narrative of your research.
Always accessible: The Boost Research button is always there when you need it, consistently positioned and ready to help you dive deeper into any aspect of your research.
When you click Boost Research, you're presented with all the substantive legal questions extracted from your conversation. You can select which ones merit deeper investigation and choose between Rapid Research (for focused analysis delivered in minutes) or Deep Research (for comprehensive exploration of complex legal questions).
When an AI-answer isn't supported by human-verified content, you'll see a 'Low confidence' indicator in the bottom right corner. Simply hover over it to learn more.
We've moved this information into a clean tag format to reduce clutter in your conversations whilst keeping you informed about the nature of each AI-answer. This helps you quickly identify which topics might benefit from our Rapid or Deep Research options with verification.
What to expect: Template documents and letters will naturally show this tag since they focus on drafting efficiency rather than complex legal analysis. This is by design; we've optimised these features for speed and simplicity.
We’re fine tuning all aspects of LawY to ensure it’s working hard for you and your firm.
We've made a behind-the-scenes enhancement to how LawY tailors AI-answers based on user intent. Our improved system now more precisely detects a lawyer's intent and automatically optimises the AI's response approach to match their specific needs. This ensures the AI-answers are more specific to different use cases, such as:
This is part of our ongoing work to refine LawY's capabilities, delivering more focused responses by directing the AI toward the most relevant research paths while ensuring higher relevance through answers that are precisely structured for each use case.
By popular demand, we have introduced an enhancement to privacy in LawY.
Previously: You could view your own conversations and the conversations of colleagues within your firm.
Now: You can view only your own conversations.
As always: Existing privacy protections are still in play, so your conversations remain confidential and are never used to train any AI models.
This change represents a shift from a firm-centric to a user-centric model and aims to support lawyers who are often handling sensitive client matters.
Please note the following:
Every feature we've rolled out comes directly from listening to our community of over 40,000 lawyers worldwide. We are excited to shape the future of legal AI with you and we look forward to sharing more updates very soon. The evolution of LawY isn't just about keeping up with technology. It's about staying ahead of your clients' expectations whilst maintaining the rigour your profession demands.
